Who am I

Jim and
Jim and Paula

My name is Jim Brophy. I moved to Gilbertsville with my wife (Paula), daughter (Sandy) and oldest son (Michael), in 1984. We picked this area for two very important reasons.

First, it was close to my place of employment, having been transferred from Philadelphia.

Second, and just as important, was the reputation of the Boyertown Area School District. My daughter (Stephanie) was born in Gilbertsville, and all three still live in the area. I watched Gilbertsville grow from a place with a few developments and a lot of farmland to a much more crowded area.

I presently live in Douglass-Berks Township with my wife, Paula, and our two Siberian Huskies. We decided that a large house was too much work and downsized to a ranch style dwelling that is much easier on the knees (one floor).

My Work Experience

To show what I bring to the table if I am elected to the Boyertown District Region School Board, I have list in part relevant portions of my work and educational experience. I have enjoyed a long and somewhat varied career which gives me the unique perspective required to successfully address issues such as those currently facing us.

  • 1972 Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) (now a subsidiary of Exelon)
    • Instrument and Control Technician responsible for Turbine and Boiler controls in fire-powered power plants.
  • 1978 Philadelphia Electric Company
    • Transferred to Nuclear Division to take part in construction on Limerick Nuclear Power Plant (Limerick)
  • 1981 Philadelphia Electric Company
    • Lead Technician (Supervisory) for several major Systems installations at Limerick. HVAC, Security, Turbine Controls, and Nuclear Boiler controls.
  • 1999 Transferred to PECO Electric Transmission and Distribution Division
    • Project Manager/Engineer Design
      • Designed Gas and Electric Services for large buildings and small housing developments
      • Worked extensively with area builders in Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties
  • 2004 Electric Power Resource Institute (EPRI)
    • Project Consultant/Engineer
      • Performed Power Plant assessments to make recommendations for process improvements in the area of Preventive/Predictive maintenance, Planning and Scheduling, and work practices
      • Oversaw plan to bring plants with maintenance deficiencies back to industry standards and best practices
  • 2009 Constellation Energy (Now a subsidiary of Exelon)
    • Senior Project Manager in charge of multi-million-dollar (up to 10 Million) plant improvement projects
      • In charge of all aspects from initiation to close out

In 2017 I retired from the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. This was difficult, as I enjoyed the work and those with whom I had the honor to work. While at Calvert we successfully completed approximately Half a Billion Dollars ($500,000,000) in Plant upgrades.
